WPF:

GUIs can be built using winforms and webforms.  In the same way Windows Presentation Foundation(WPF), Microsoft’s new framework can be used for building GUIs, graphics, animation and multimedia applications.

  If a windows forms application requires video and audio capabilities, you needed to incorporate an additional technology such as Windows Media player.  Likewise, if your application needed 3D graphics capabilities, you had to incorporate a separate technology as Direct 3D.  WPF enables you to use one technolody to build applications containing GUI images, animation, 2D or 3D graphics, audio and video capabilities.

The important tool used to create WPF applications is called XAML(Extensible Application Markup Language). XAML uses XML syntax.
